Traveling Towards The Ferry

The day started cloudy and it was lightly drizzling again. We decided that we would move on as sitting in the rain is not a fine day. It was off to showers only to find the water pressure so low that there was barely a dribble. We opted for bath wipes…Ellen calls them Dude Wipes, but that is a different brand. Ours are kind of generic, but they do the job. There is even an illustration on the package showing what bits to wash in what order.

Somewhat refreshed we were back on the road for the long bouncy drive back out to Route 1. After that it was a couple of hours to Barachois Pond Provincial Park, with a stop at the Tim Horton’s at Deer Lake for coffee and lunch. Tim provided the coffee; Ellen provided the lunch.

We arrived at the park in mid-afternoon and took up site 53. It is a small drive through site right on the pond, relatively flat and shady. There has been a stiff breze blowing, but made it comfortable in the shade at 80 degrees.

There is no cellular service at the site and to only WiFi was a ten minute walk away…which I did. We wanted to check on ferry reservations. It turns out that virtually all the ferries this week have openings going back to Nova Scotia. We now have a booking for tomorrow’s 11:45 ferry. It is a two hour drive, so we wil have to get an early start. Coffee, showers and off we’ll go.

Tonight’s dinner was pizza. It would be nice to say that we hauled put the pizza oven and made dough from scratch, but it was actually pre-made flatbread that we topped and crisped on the griddle plate. It was mozzarella, bacon, grilled red peppers and grilled artichoke hearts…very tasty along with a very green salad with Granny Smith apples.

The clouds returned during dinner and our outside dining finished just before it started to sprinkle. It looks like rain tonight and tomorrow. We probably won’t be able to do a bit of pelagic birding in the rain…but who knows.
