We decided to continue to move on to Cape Breton today. We are staying at Whycocomagh Provincial Park tonight, a park we have been to several times as it is on the way to the Cabot Trail and to the Newfound ferry.
After filling the fresh water tank and emptying the waste tanks, we were on the road. We stayed on the back roads for about half the trip, stopping once for fuel. Interestingly diesel fuel is cheaper than gasoline in this part of Canada.
We eventually came out to Route104, a new multi-lane highway, parts of which are still under construction. Some of the finished highway were so new they were not in our GPS, a Garmin RV770 with maps updated to the current edition (2014.10). For about 20km, it told us we we off road.
The GPS and the actual road came back together and became a two lane road again and we stopped for a coffee and scones break at the Overstreet Cafe on River John.They had good coffee and excellent scones. We shared Ginger scone and a Cranberry scone. The last stop before the park was at the Whycocomagh Co-op Market for a few provisions.
We arrived at Whycocomagh Provincial Park shortly after and have settled in at site 3, a serviced site in the lower section of the park. We have always stayed in the upper section, but all to sites are unserviced and wanted electricity for powering the computers and maybe for AC if continues to be very humid. Since rain is forecast for tonght, that seems a near certainty.
We haven’t decided if we will try to get on a ferry tomorrow. In any event we will be in the waiting line as we have no reservations and none are available for the next month. We’ll get on.
Ellen is busy editing a week’s worth of photos, we should have some posted soon, depending on decent internet bandwidth. We have no WiFi here.
