Day 4 - Another Day At Godbout

Just a short note today. Rain was forecast so we decided to stay one more day. The actual weather was intermittently rainy with most of it in the afternoon.

We did get a chance to stop at the Centre d’interprétation des oiseaux proie de Godbout this morning. It is the local raptor sanctuary housing a fair number of birds that had been injured and no longer able to be released to the wild. Most had experienced wing injuries from vehicle collisions.

They had seven species that we could see, mostly in pairs, from falcons to hawks to owls to vultures. Our favorite was the Great Grey Owl, but all the birds seemed well kept in good sized aviaries.

They also had a young Merlin that had been hatched there. The parents were a pair who had been at the center for several years and the male was thought to be infertile…after five yesrs it turned out he wasn’t.  The handsome young bird is very calm and spends its days in the reception area greeting visitors. 

Other than that visit, we sent most of the day reading in Speedy.

It is off to the north tomorrow, which should be a dry day. I’m not sure if we will make it to the first gravel section of QC 389 though.
