A short note today
We definitely slept in this morning after our long drive yesterday. After breakfast, we did a late and unproductive bit of birding around our loop, but the birds were already hiding out. It was going to be a hot day. Only three birds and two species for our effort.
It was time to move to our new site, site #90 in the electric loop. But first it was off to the rather busy campground laundry. As we waited for machines to free up we chatted with two teachers who were both here with their families on summer vacation. For at least one of them, it was the local national park instead of Florida. We assumed they were part of the many Canadians who vacationed at home this year.
One of them was here with her family of husband and three teenagers—lots of laundry and lots of food. Breakfast was mentioned and we were told about Toutons, a Newfoundland favorite, which is basically pan-fried dough in the shape of a pancake, served with molasses or syrup. She went off to her site as she was after us in the queue and returned with a plate of Toutons for us to try. They won't replace pancakes on my menu, but were pretty good, especially with lots of syrup.
After laundry we set up in the new site had lunch and relaxed in the very warm 88° clear weather. It was pretty comfortable in the shade of the pines on the edge of our site. It is so nice to be able to sit outside without mozzies and black flies.
Tomorrow we hope to be up early for a walk along the sound and hopefully more birds
