Thanksgiving in Masked Bobwhite

Thanksgiving in our winter home was a challenge. We tried to get a pre-cooked dinner at Whole Foods last week but because we failed to reserve online we couldn't get a cooked turkey and had to opt for a fresh breast. We managed to buy pre-made gravy, stuffing and pie. Between the turkey, veggies and our pre-made stuff, dinner wasn't too bad. The worse of the lot was pecan pie from Trader Joe's but with enough whipped cream most anything is good.

"Our" trailer (named Masked Bobwhite) is old, cheap and pretty beat. On the plus side it is warm and comfortable. It provides a high level of convenience over life in Speedy with a real kitchen (frig, oven, hot water) and bath of our own and a fair amount of room. In addition to the center kitchen, office and living room, it has three bedrooms and a bathroom (of course). The decor is brown ... brown walls, brown furniture, brown cabinets. We have a front terrace but it's been too cold to eat outside. Since we moved in we totally re-arranged the furniture and have made small repairs including new door knob sets as the front door previously didn't open, making us walk through the mud coming and going. The trailer came complete with a number of pets (pack rats, mice, raccoon, possum and at least two skunks). We hope to reduce this number by re-location soon. We'll keep you posted. For the curious (Robin), attached are some snapshots of Masked Bobwhite.

Today is the day after Thanksgiving and the weather has been wild, lots of wind and rain. The windows in the trailer leaked a lot and we spent the morning mopping up. We were supposed to provide sweep on a hike in Brown Canyon but the hike was cancelled due to the weather. In weather this bad the roads would have been flooded making access for hikers from Tucson impossible. That left us with a day to eat leftovers and do laundry. Tomorrow to Tucson to shop and we start our workweek on Sunday. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday ... burp!
