Day 73 - Seward

Just A Day In Town

It was a gray start as it rained overnight, but it just threatened rain all day.

We took a morning walk along the shoreline trail to the end, which is also the start of the historic Iditerod Trail. The modern race starts in Anchorage, a long way from here.

After checking out another section of the public waterfront campground, we just poked along on the main street, actually 4th Street, lookiy in the shops. We stopped for coffee at the Sea Bean, which has pretty good coffee.

There is an aquarium in Sewatd, the Sealife Center, but at $21.50 per person, we decided to forego it.

Finally, we stopped at library so Ellen could post her eBird lists from the past few days. Wireless Data access it nonexistent in Seward. Neither Project Fi nor Verizon provide a working data connection although the phone indicators show the presence of 3G service. I hadn't brought my iPad, so my Speedy Journal posts will have to wait for another day.

Sally found a Surfbird along the shore on  the way back, a life bird for her and Ellen. It was very cooperative, just sitting on a driftwood log pecking away at the vegetation on it.

We returned to Speedy to while away the gray afternoon watching the birds and otters on the water in front of our site.

Speedy Pasta for dinner and a walk uptown to the waterfront for ice cream.
