On to Kalispell
It was only about 150 miles to Kalispell. We planned stop early at Wayfarers State Park on Flathead Lake, about 15 miles south of Creston RV, where we had an appointment the next day. It was a nice drive through the mountains. We've left the plains states for sure and it was narrow twisty roads with lake and mountain views all the way. We stopped for coffee at a little log cabin coffee stand in Seeley Lake. The coffee was great as was a Maple Pecan Danish at Crescent Mountain Coffee.
Wayfarers State Park was a bust. They were expensive. There were no level sites. There was no view of the lake. The sites were very crowded together. The campground host was arrogant and dismissive. Enough said? We decided to travel on to Kalispell to the fairgrounds where there were supposed to be RV sites and showers.
On to the Kalispell fairgrounds where the showers were also out of order. In addition the only open restrooms were at the other end of the fairgrounds about 300 yards away. Good enough ... too much time looking for camping options. The campsites were flat and grassy and it would be a quiet night as we were all by ourselves. The fairgrounds had nothing going on at this time of year with the exception of a local equestrian team practicing in the evening.
We spent the remainder of the day doing errands. Harry and Sally went off to do laundry and get an oil change. We went food shopping at the local Albertson's and filled our propane tank. We also did a short tour of the historic downtown area stopping in at a couple of shops. One was a fly fishing shop where the woman there was about as cold as it gets. I think we weren't dressed right, obviously not the monied fly fishermen she must normally deal with. Time to find a shower maybe?
We also went out to the big box store end of town, stopping at Cabelas to pick up bear spray. We are now entering grizzly bear territory and it is a must-carry item while walking in the woods.
Back to the fairgrounds for a quiet night.
