Once again we are on our way. We are heading to the Rio Grand Valley in South Texas to join up with other folks from the South Shore Bird Club for a week of birding. On the way, we hope to travel along the Gulf Coast searching for the Spring migration. Our first multi-night stop will be at Davis Bayou in the Gulf Shores National Seashore near Ocean Springs, MS.
As it always seems, we are off to an exciting start. No matter how much we plan and maintain, something seems to happen on our first day out. We left home before 9am this morning to no traffic, but pretty lumpy roads, particularly in Connecticut and New York. As we took the exit from I-84 onto I-684 just beyond Danbury, one of the drawers in our cabinet came sliding out with such force that the front of the drawer popped off and its entire contents of food went crashing onto the floor. It locking pin that keeps it in place had vibrated out. We were able to repair it at lunch, just a bit further down the road.
This was topped a bit later. As we were leaving the station after getting fuel just short of the PA border. I accelerated an Speedy went clunk! We were going onto the highway and realized that we were in second gear and the transmission wouldn’t shift. Fortunately, the PA welcome center was just up the road and we limped into it.
A check with our engine code reader showed a transmission input sensor fault....on Sunday afternoon...in unfamilar territory. We mulled over our options, none of which seemed good. Finally, I decided to try to reset the fault...and it worked. So far, it hasn’t returned an we drove on for three more hours without a problem.
We have stopped at the Martinsburg,WV Cracker Barrel for the night an hope the problem is not coming back.
