A Day Of Doing Nothing
It was another fine day at South Beach with a bit of fog in the morning then mostly sunny and not too warm.
We started the day with a walk on the beach while the tide was low and there was actually a beach. We saw mostly gulls, most of which were immature gulls and virtually unidentifiable. The highlight of the walk was a bald eagle sitting at the top of a very tall dead cedar. It was much taller than anything around it. The bird was just sunning itself on the highest perch in town.
When the tide is out there a wide expanse of fine sand that runs up to dunes of rounded stones of all sizes. These dunes are topped with giant logs from trees washed into the ocean and deposited on the beach. Some were six to eight feet in diameter at the base. These were mostly fallen trees compete with roots. It is terrifying to imagine running into on of these floating logs in a small boat. There must be thousands of them lining the beaches along this coast.
After our walk, we managed to move to a new campsite right on the bluff overlooking the water, a front row seat for whale and bird watching.
While we did a bit of both, we actually spent most of the day not doing anything. There weren't even many whales to watch today.
