To the Olympic Peninsula
It was still very smoky and the visibility was pretty poor this morning. It was no hassle when we caught the 9:30 ferry to Port Townsend. Speedy was charged about four times the price for ordinary automobiles. They charge extra for length and height. Speedy is over 22' long and over 7'2". Each triggers an extra charge.
It was only a 30 minute trip, but a few birds were seen. Not only smoke, but fog was on the water. We could barely make out the other ferry going to Coupeville in the fog.
After a quick drive through Port Townsend, which was so crowded that delivery trucks were parked right in the middle of the main street with traffic passing on both sides of them, we headed out of town.
After a stop for propane, at a propane company this time, and at a nice local fruit and vegetable stand, we made our way to Poulsbo, a seaside town with a Norweigian theme. Lots of shops and places to eat. We stopped at J.J's Fish House for lunch where the service was slow and I had the worst and most expensive Halibut Caesar Salad ever. Lesson relearned...don't stop at the touristy place right on the waterfront, even if it is crowded. You will be disappointed.
We wandered through the shops for a while stopping at Java Shots for coffee, but got an espresso shake and coffee ice cream instead. Both were good. We finished our town touring with a stop at the local marine consignment shop. Harry was looking for something. I escaped without buying anything. My last trip to a marine consignment shop resulted in buying the inflatable kayak...which left home on this trip. It would have been more useful than the screen tent.
We drove from there to Indianola to Sally's sister Sue's house where we are boondocking in their back yard. We spent time chatting with Sue and her husband, Will, mostly about boats, but excused ourselves to have dinner in Speedy so that Harry and Sally could spend some family time with Sue and Will.
Tomorrow it is off to the boat show.
