Day 104 - North Cascades NP

Clear but very warm night

It was a clear night, but a very warm one, not great for sleeping, but it is dark at night now.

The campground is full, but cars keep going by this morning, a coupe of sites emptied, so ther were a few lucky arrivers. It was all luck in timing.

It is getting very warm and the forecast for the weekend is be in the 90s every day. We won't be doing much in the Cascades. It will be a little too hot for the hikes we'd hoped to do.

The biggest effort we made today wa to walk the trail down to the Newhalem visitor center and store. This a "town" owned by Seattle City Light, the local electric company. the center of the park, where the road runs, has three dams, their associted lakes and power stations. They have their own small vs at Newhalem and also a small convenience store.

Actually, Ellen walked and I rode my bike, she walked the wooded trail back to camp while I rode back along the main road.

If only there were showers at Newhalem. But there weren't so we got to use Speedy's built-in water heater and shower this afternoon. It definitely felt good. It was just about the ideal conditions for Speedy's shower as the day was hot and dry, so the interior of the van didn't get damp and the shower curtain and towels dried almost immediately when hung outside.

That was pretty much the extent of our activity for today. Who knew it could be so hot and dry on the west side of the Cascades.
