After a fairly early and rainy start (why would one hang around a Walmart parking lot?), we continued up Route 1, stopping in Camden for breakfast, Ellsworth for coffee and at a waterside rest area for lunch. We crossed into Canada at St. Stephen around 2pm, which immediately became 3pm and fuel became a dollar a gallon pricier as well.
The last time we came up to Canada via this route, two years ago, the road out of St. Stephen was in awful condition. It has just been replaced with a divided highway, so new it doesn't appear on this year's version of the GPS's map. We didn't go much further, only about 30 miles to the New River Beach Provincial Park. The camping area was not on the beach but in the woods across the road. We did get the only pull-through site, so we didn't have to back the trailer into a site--and the Balsam grove we were in smelled like Christmas.
