A Lazy Day -- Canada 2010 - Day 8

We were planning to start our Cabot Trail Ride/Tent Camping Trip tomorrow, so we had a bit of a lazy day today. We took a short ride south to Whycocomagh to check out the Provincial Park there. It is really a nice park, with open grassy camp sites, on a hill among widely spaced trees, overlooking the Bras d'Or Lakes. Our idea was to move there after the Cabot Trail ride, as it is significantly less expensive than the campground we are now at.

After stopping at the Whycocomagh Coop market for a few groceries and some really good, locally baked, oatcakes (from Helen's Bakery), we headed back to camp to prepare for the ride.

After getting out all of the camping gear and packing on my bike and attaching the top bags to Ellen's bike, we just spent the afternoon reading and catching up on news online. Then we checked the weather...

It looks like rain is forecast for tomorrow afternoon and Friday. This puts a crimp into our plans, as we really don't want to ride the trail in the rain. Motorcycling in the rain on wet, hilly, twisty roads is no fun; leaving our dry, snug camper van for a damp tent is no fun; and having no views along the trail is also no fun.  Needless to say, we'll probably postpone the ride.

It looks like we might just strap everything down and trundle off to the Mira River Provincial Park and go visit Louisbourgh and its reconstructed 17th century French fortress for the day before coming back to this side of the island to do the Cabot Trail after the rain stops.

Only a couple of photos today

And today's ride
