Day 0 - Away We Go

We are heading back to Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge in southern Arizona tomorrow for another winter of volunteering. It should take us a week or so to get there.

We had hoped to leave before the New England winter arrived, but didn't quite make it. The first significant snow storm of the season came last night. Fortunately, it turned to rain and along our part of the coast the snow has mostly washed away, but it made loading Speedy a bit more difficult. Most everything is now aboard, save some of the food and our cameras and computers, so we expect a reasonable early start in the morning.

At the moment, we expect to take a semi-southern route which goes southwest to Tennessee then west from there. It is a bit longer than the shortest route which goes west through Ohio before sinking to the southwest, but it should get us to warmer weather more quickly. We are planning a fairly quick trip, mostly Interstates. At this time of year one needs to get fairly far south before campgrounds are open, so we expect a few overnights at Cracker Barrels.

Away we go...
