It was then off across the bridge to the US border in Lubec, Maine,, one of the smaller border crossings. We only had to give up our tomatoes this time.
Last evening we hunted around online to see if we could find a campground on the route home tha wasn’t full on summer Saturday night. Wonder of wonders, there was a single site left at Camden Hills State Park, just a half-day drive down Route 1. We reserved it.
It was a rainy and foggy drive to Camden. The first section from Lubec to Ellsworth was quite pleasant, even in the rain, as there was virtually no traffic. After Ellsworth the traffic picks up and it is not so nice. With a coffee stop at Green Tree Roasters in Lincolnville, just before Camden, we passed the park at mid-morning. As we were so early, we decided to make a stop at Maine Sport on the other side of Camden, before checking in. Not a great idea. The traffic was backed up about a mile into Camden. We did find a route around it and did our usual perusal of the other big Maine outdoor store. By that time the rain had stopped.
We checked into our site, 72, and found it far from level. We decided to ask at the gate if there might have been any cancellations due to the weather. There had beempn an we moved to site 6, a more level site. This one has electricity, which we immediately put to use to run the air conditioner to dry out the interior of Speedy.
Ellen went off on a short walk while I didn’t.
Steak tips, pilaf and salad for dinner and We should get home tomorrow.
