Finally left Denali for Anchorage with many stops along the way.
Our 14 days were up and it was time to say goodbye to Denali National Park. It was a great experience and we'd love to come back...if it only weren't so far. But, it was time to go and we had many stops to make today.
Our first stop was at the Denali Post Office send a bit of mail, then we were back on the Parks Highway heading south, destination Anchorage. At mid-morning, we stopped at the Brown Bear coffee shack at Talkeetna Spur road, then it was on to Wasilla stopping for fuel and propane on the outskirts of town. Being low on just about everything, it was back to the Wasilla Fred Meyers for groceries and wine. That took us well past lunchtime, so we split at huge burrito at the Qboda shop in the same plaza. Ellen tried to get her hair trimmed at the salon nect door, but with about ten people already waiting, she quickly rethought that idea.
It was getting fairly late at that point, so we decided to overnight at the Anchorage Cabela's where they have an area for RVs to park and stay overnight. But first it was off to a laundromat near the store. It was in a little strip mall, but it was a clean and fast laundry, easily the best of any recent laundry we've found on the road...and there was a great little fly shop next door where we perused fishing gear while our clothes were in the wash.
After the laundry we made a quick stop at a Costco that was right on the way for a new rug for Speedy, then it was on to Cabelas where we overnighted with about 50 other RVs. It's hard to understand why Cabelas does this, but we appreciate it. We've stopped at others in our cross-country travels, but there were no more than a couple of other RVs ovenight. It's always different in Alaska.
After a short stop in the store, we went back to Speedy and just collapsed. It has been a very long day.
