Tuesday was laundry day. The campground store had a pay laundry and we had lots to do, so it was off to spend the morning doing the wash...and it took all morning.
After lunch Ellen went off for another birdwatching walk with Sally and Nina (the dog). I went off on the motorcycle in search of an auto parts store. As we were riding to the oyster fest on Sunday, my bike computer indicated a lamp warning. The lamp in question turned out to be my low beam headlamp. As daytime headlights on motorcycles are almost universally required these days, it was time to search for one.
Over the bridge to Gulf Breeze and a few miles east, I found an auto parts store and with a new H7 bulb, all was well again and it was back to camp. But the riding was not over—a get-together dinner was planned and firewood was needed. It was back on the bike, out of the park, over the bridge to Gulf Breeze and westward to the Publix Market for a few last minute items and firewood. Any excuse for a ride.
Dinner was good, too.
Wednesday was our last day at Fort Pickens campground. A celebratory lunch at Peg Leg Pete's was in order as rumor had it that the grouper sandwich was excellent. Once again, any excuse for a ride and I took the bike. Ellen, sensing that a beer with that grouper sandwich would be tasty (that and the high wind), chose to ride along with Harry and Sally. The grouper lived up to its billing, as did the fish chowder, the gumbo, the raw oysters (still good at the 35 cents per oyster lunchtime special) and the fried oysters. I had the fried oysters and a bottomless glass of lemonade. A good time was had by all.
The afternoon was spent loading our bicycles and motorcycles back into the trailer for travel. After a simple dinner, we joined our friends, Tom, Jean, Kathy, Harry and Sally (and Nina, of course) for a walk along the Gulf-side beach in the full moon. No lights were needed with the cloudless sky, white sand and crashing surf. The best time was had by Nina, who was surreptitiously let off leash and joyfully ran a mile back and forth along the waterline.
