Although this is dated March 8th, it is being written much later. I'm still trying to fill in the gaps in the Speedy Journal. This entry and the next few will probably be mercifully short.
On Saturday we all piled into Tom's truck to go into Rockport and Fulton. It was Fulton Oysterfest weekend. We arrived just in time for the parade....a loud parade. Just about every volunteer fire department in the area was in the parade, all with different colored engines and all with loud sirens. Oh yeah, there were also local bands and floats and beauty queens of all ages. At the end of the parade route was the Oysterfest, with arcades and rides and a big tent of crafts and a bigger tent of food stalls....and very big crowds. It was a Saturday and it seems that everyone in the county was there.
We went for the oysters, locally harvested, both raw and fried. The raw ones were very tasty, the fried ones not so much. I also waited in a long line for fresh fried potato chips. More accurately, it was a single potato chip. They took a whole potato and put through a spiral cutter that produced one long chip. This was dumped into a deep fryer until crispy. It was worth the wait and was shared by all five of us.
As I was laving the chip stand, I noticed that the next stall, primarily fried dough, also had deep-fried Oreos. Tom and Jean always travel with a package of Oreos in the console for snacking along the way. I stopped and picked up an order as well, which just happened to be five Oreos, one for each of us. This turned out to be plenty. They weren't as good as the chips, tasting like an Oreo-filled donut.
When we got back, we invited T, J & K to join us for dinner. We used the community building kitchen and tables and had a big dinner and a good evening.
