A Walk In The Woods

I need to stop with the high-tech upgrades to Speedy and focus on some basics—like the bed. I mean, it seems comfortable enough, but I seem to strain my back at the beginning of every trip. I woke up this morning nad all was great...until I sat up. Sproing! I strained it again. This never happens at home. Maybe it's time for a better Speedy mattress. Hopefully, Tylenol and caffeine will ease the pain. It only hurts when I stand up.

Pawtuckaway State Park seems quite nice, at least in the Horse Island section of the campground. The sites are well spaced and most are along the edge of thw ater. They aren't actually on the waterfront, but set back, usually up above the the lake in the trees. Ours is not on the water but has a water view. We can hear the loons just as well from here. There are no hookups in the park, but they do have showers. They are supposed to be coin-operated, but the coin boxes are inoperable, so they are free (at least in our nearest shower house).

Since the motorcycles were at Max BMW for their annual day of beauty, we had a free day to relax...so we took a walk in the woods. Actually it was a six mile hike to the firetower atop South Mountain. It's not much of a mountain, even by New Hampshire standards, topping out at 908', but it was a nice walk with a steep bit at the end and a great view from the firetower. There were only a few mozzies in the woods to harass us on the way in and out.

I'm not sure it did my back any good, but it was a good walk in the woods.

The trailhead was a couple of miles from the campground, out by the park entrance, so we drove over there and parked in the main parking lot. Being a sunny location, as opposed to our shady campsite, the solar panel topped the batteries right up while we hiked.

Tomorrow morning we are off to pick up the bikes and on to Vermont.
