On the road again

Speedy is off on a winter sojourn staring today--finally. After being delayed by a coupe of weeks due to chaos on the home front (but that's another blog), we are heading south, towing the motorcycles. First stop will be Francis Marion National Forest near Charleston, SC.

We haven't been to Charleston and we have passes to see Drayton Hall, just outside of the city. It is an ante-bellum mansion that is owned by the National Trust for Historic Places. It was never upgraded by the original owners (no indoor plumbing or heating, the original paints,etc.). We tried to visit on the return trip from Florida two winters ago, but it was closed only on the day we visited, due to trees falling over in the entrance. Better luck this time.

After Charleston and the surrounding area, it is off to Gulf Island National Seashore near Pensacola, FL to meet some friends. After that, who knows.

This evening we are staying at the enormous Cabelas in Hamburg, PA. They have a large RV area in their lot and allow overnight stays.
