It was rather chilly in the mountains of the Gila national Forest last night. When we woke up this morning it was 33° outside and 44° inside Speedy. The little electric heater got a workout this morning. The day was clear and it was time to get ready to leave. All went well until I drove over to the dump station. After a few days, we have to dump our waste tanks. Usually, I pull the permanently mounted stretchy dump hose out of its tube and push the end into the drain in the dump station, then open the valves it all empties with no muss or fuss.
Today, I pulled out the hose and it disintegrated, leaving one end in my hands and the other halfway up the tube. Fortunately, this dump station had its drain in the middle of a large concrete basin and the end of the storage tube overlapped the basin. I was able to open the valves and drain the tanks into the basin and then rinse everything down the drain.
That only solved today's problem, but I now have to find a replacement hose, put Speedy up on blocks, crawl underneath, take off the tube to expose and remove the broken waste, attach a new one and re-attach the tube. This will take much must and fuss.
It was back to the campsite to say goodbye to our friends, Harry and Sally. They are heading east on their way back to Massachusetts and we are going west to Tucson and Buenos Aires NWR. We followed them out for the first 20 miles until we reached NM 152. They turned left and we turned right. We probably won't see them again until we get home (unless they get tired of winter in New England).
We headed on to Silver City, then to Lordsburg and I-10 to Tucson. With only a stop for coffee in Silver City, lunch at the Texas Canyon, NM rest area and fuel just outside of Tucson, we pulled into the Whispering Pines RV Park in Tucson around 4pm. This isn't the usual place for us to stay, but it was relatively inexpensive and we needed a place with showers and laundry...and it was the closest to the Tucson Apple Store.
My iPad died on the way to the Gila NF. I turned it off as we were driving along and when we arrived, I tried to turn it on. Nothing happened. I tried charging it, but that had no effect. I called Apple support when we got to the campground today and their suggestions were for what I'd already done, so I have an appointment at the Apple Store tomorrow. I'm afraid it has gone into an irreversible coma. I've had it less than a year....
It was 33° this morning, probably 40° when we left Mesa Campground. It was 88° when we pulled into Whispering Pines. Out of the mountains and into the desert. It was time to try out the new air conditioner. It came right on. It is cool. It is quiet. It is 68° in Speedy.
Showers taken, laundry done, a good dinner and it is time to retire. Tomorrow it is Apple Store, re-provisioning and finding a new waste hose, then we will be off to Buenos Aires on Sunday.
